The basic purpose of this tool is to adjust the tension in a rope or cable and remove any slack; in construction sites or industrial areas, you might have seen turnbuckles attached at the end of cables or ropes. They are not so prominent but are very important in the rigging; having said that let's discuss different types of turnbuckles.
Types of Turnbuckles:
On the basis of end fittings, there are five different types of turnbuckles, to understand them properly, you will first have to familiarize yourself with the different end fittings that are found in turnbuckles. The first is hook end; hook end is exactly like a hook, an open hook, and is suited for temporary rigging connections as the open hook can easily be hooked and unhooked without having to do anything extra. The other end fitting is the jaw end; this one is like a jaw in U shape with holes at the end through which a nut or pin is passed to secure rigging connections. This end fitting is good for forming semi-permanent rigging connections as the nut or pin requires to be screwed and unscrewed. The last type of end fitting is the eye end, which is a closed-loop, and it is only good for securing a shackle usually. These three types of end fittings collectively form five different types of turnbuckles.
